Born at Dawn Synopsis:BORN-AT-DAWN-FRONT

Thirty-four year old Cynthia Barclay knows that marriage is supposed to be for better or for worse. Unfortunately, for the last ten years of her marriage Cynthia has experienced the worst that marriage has to offer at the hands of her abusive husband Marvin Barclay. With the hope of saving herself and her family she turns to the Lord. Expecting to see God manifest himself greatly in her life sooner than later Cynthia is not content just waiting. She wants out.

Abandoning her hope, her husband, and her two young sons Cynthia boards a bus from New York City to Richmond, Virginia. She begins a new life armed with six thousand dollars on a prepaid credit card, a sketchy plan for success, and a promise to return for her sons. That is until she meets Cheo, a photojournalist with enough connections to take her where she wants to be and forget where she came from.

After six years in Richmond Cynthia’s dark past resurfaces. At the risk of losing it all—her past and her present Cynthia returns home to right her wrongs. Has Cynthia chosen the right time to return home or is it too late for God to restore everything she has broken?

Two other awesome soul sisters, Nikki Thompson and Cherylrese Lynette, shared how they’re spreading the gospel and worshiping God with their gifts as well.

Moms on the Run: Why do Moms take off?

Blame it on choice. Blame it on chance. Blame it on circumstance. Blame it on their finances.  Regardless of the cause  moms are on the run and they’re running away from their families. In a recent interview on the Sharvette Mitchell Radio Show this week I was asked about Cynthia Barclay, the protagonist of Born at Dawn, decision to abandon her responsibilities not only to her husband, but to her children as well and run away. While Cynthia’s decision seems unfathomable in many of our eyes it is a reality presented in Isaiah 49:15 “Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb?…” and it is becoming an increasing reality in our country. The number of children being raised solely by their fathers was up to two million in 2011 based on statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau.

One of the most recent and publicized cases of a mother running away was Brenda Heist who dropped her children off at school one day and did not return. According to an article by Erik Ortiz, Heist ran away due to the distress brought on by an impending divorce and the stark reality that she would soon become the sole provider for her family. When she returned home after eleven years Heist was not greeted by a marching band. Her daughter lashed out publicly and basically said you should have stayed where you were at because we’re dong fine without you.

Did she deserve to be welcomed home or chastised for abandoning her responsibility to her then eleven year old son and eight year old daughter?

Regardless of what we think of these women’s decision there is a great promise connected to their absenteeism from God. The rest of verse fifteen of Isaiah forty-nine gores on to say “yea, they [mothers] may forget, yet will I not forget thee.”

Sound-off: What do you think is the leading cause behind mother’s abandoning their families? Is their any justification for a woman abandoning their family? What do you think should be done to help them? Be sure to pre-order Born at Dawn to find out how the Barclay’s handle Cynthia’s disappearance.

When God Turns Things Around (I’m Going on Tour–Virtually for Now)

In my mind I planned on launching the greatest publicity/marketing campaign ever. I contacted a publicist (she was too expensive). Then I decided I would hire one or all of the book publicist I’ve seen marketing some of the trailblazers of my genre. I was all set and geared up to work with them and then a friend of mine needed a loan. Now we all know how this story goes…I handed them the money…emphasized I needed this money to take over the world…so far I haven’t seen a dime…and I keep on seeing them with new stuff (but that’s another story). After some prayer the Lord reminded me that “the wicked borroweth and payeth not again” and I on the other hand was supposed to lend with out expecting to be repaid. I sucked it up and then said, “but God, how am I going to promote this book?” and he told me to run on.
So, I spent this week running my fingers across my keyboard–typing emails requesting features and interviews from bloggers and blogtalkradio show hosts and you know what? Praise be to God, I’ve begun booking three different tours. Two pre-release and one post release. When God turns things around He really knows how to work a situation out. The God of the Bible is not dead nor are His promises.

I hope you will join me and support me while I tour the web on the first of many Virtual Book Tours.

Born at Dawn Cover Reveal Recap

Have you ever watched an episode of a reality show and one of the characters is about to host an event and they start flipping out because everything just started falling apart at the last minute (and yes I watch reality t.v. in moderation)? Well, I had a few of those moments and I also had some totally great moments that I’d love to share with you.

By the grace of God I survived the event and things ran smoothly, however not because of my efforts or the efforts of the event organizer. We forgot things and had to rush through some parts. It ran smoothly because the Lord showed up and allowed His grace to flow-proving the word to be true, it’s not by my might or strength, but the spirit of God. So, to God be the glory. Here’s Evangelist and first lady, Peggy Dunkley of my church, King of Kings & Lord of Lords helping me give God the glory.

I am so glad to share my debut novel, Born at Dawn with the world!
