The paperback version of Tempted to Touch is now available for pre-order on the Inheritance Books website. That’s right we’re sticking it to the man and bringing it to people. Synopsis: Sentenced to probation, thirty-year-old supermodel Grace King must put her plans of transitioning into acting on hold. Desperate to keep a close eye on Grace and his job, Grace’s ambitious lawyer, Ethan Summerville has her complete community service in the last place Grace wants to be—his church.

Instead of God, Grace finds a “chocolate drop” of a man, Brother Horace Green. Unfortunately, Horace isn’t looking for a supermodel. He wants his woman saved and sanctified, but Grace has never met a man who has been able to resist her. Will Horace compromise his faith for a taste of fortune, fame, and Grace?

While Grace focuses on the pursuit of passion, Ethan finds one director willing to take a risk and cast Grace in his debut film, but this role fits Grace all too well. Will this film revive Grace’s relationship with God and her career, or bring her closer to destruction?

Seasoned with Grace Book Trailer and Excerpt

I just got the book trailer for Seasoned with Grace and I love it. Now, because I also love you, I’m sharing it with y’all!!! Check out the book trailer and a short excerpt of Seasoned with Grace

Excerpt

The sound of Young Thug’s cartoonish intonation and the infectious chorus of his and Rich Homie Quan’s hit song “Lifestyle” snapped Grace King out of her alcohol-induced slumber. She squinted to read the screen of her iPhone. “Ethan Summerville,” she read slowly before tapping the green telephone icon to accept the call from her attorney slash agent slash everything. Throughout the years, Grace had come to rely on Ethan. To Grace, it seemed like no one understood her except for him.

“Hello,” she grumbled into the phone.

“Grace Terisha King, I know the reason that you are late to this meeting is that you’re still in bed.”

“No, I’m up, Ethan.”SEASONED-WITH-GRACE (1)

“You know what my mother used to tell me when she caught me in a lie? Lying lips are an abomination unto the Lord.”

Grace mustered up enough strength to sit up in the bed so that she wasn’t completely lying, just telling a little half-truth. Those half-truths had taken her far. The half-truth she’d told the bouncer—that her friend was drunk and needed her help getting out of the club—had enabled her to finagle her way into the VIP section of the 40/40 Club, where she was discovered by Bleeker Kios, the head of Fresh Faces Modeling Agency. Her friend had been drunk and had needed her help, but she’d passed out with her head on the bar. From there, Grace had parlayed that half-truth into a prosperous modeling career.

“You can’t continue to do this,” Ethan said when she was silent.

“Do what?” she asked, slapping her thigh. Sometimes Ethan’s paternal and overbearing nature frustrated her, and it also made her think of all the things she’d left behind, like family, namely, her father, whom she had once considered herself close to.

“You cannot continue to walk out of nightclubs, inebriated, and expect to book legitimate jobs. It’s all about branding, and no one wants you associated with their brand. These proceedings were supposed to begin at eight, and it is now nine o’clock. The judge has been calling here every hour on the hour since six a.m., trying to determine why it was exactly that she didn’t lock you up, and why it is that she shouldn’t lock you up now.”

“So . . . what?” Grace shrugged her shoulders. “Am I not supposed to enjoy myself ever?”

“Not when you’re trying to break into the world of acting. Tell me which producer wants the drunken girl on page six on their billboard.”

“Page six?”

“I knew you were not out of bed. You’re on page six of the Post, page two of the Daily News. And I’m sure they have a shot of you in every free paper that exists in New York City as well. If you keep this up, your star is going to nova soon.”

Grace ran her fingers through the long blond bang she’d had sewn into her short pixie cut as she digested what Ethan was telling her about her career. Since she’d left home at sixteen, the only thing she had had was her career.

#LaunchParty: You’re Invited

If you’ve been following The Neophyte Author for awhile now then you know how much I like to party and celebrate each book. Now there was no way I could not throw a party for Seasoned with Grace even though I considered not doing it. However, once my sister convinced me to have a party the Lord allowed everything to come together. Two great things about this party is, one it’s going to be at Grace King’s favorite coffee shop in Seasoned with Grace and there will be a stylist on hand to give some personal styling tips to us all. There will also be plenty of games and gifts.

If you’re in the NYC area and want to celebrate with me you’re invited to attend the Seasoned with Grace Launch Party and Style Session, lead by the Visual Stylist Shanette Valle. We’ll also be collecting donations of gently used women’s office wear for the organization Dress for Success.  To get your tickets click the image:

Under Covers 2015

Excerpt from Under Covers:

She slipped out of the office and down the corridor to her own space. Jordan must have heard her voice. He leaned lazily against the door frame, looking better in a collared shirt and jeans than the photo-shopped image of a bare-chested J. Cole that she had seen just moments earlier. Naomi felt the heat begin at her toes and travel all the way through her as their eyes locked.

How had she gotten this lucky?

“Good morning, Red.” His eyes devoured her as the distance closed between them.

“Good morning.”

He pulled her into his arms. Naomi sank into him willingly as he parted her smiling lips with his.

“Babe, the whole office can see us,” she murmured against his delicious mouth.

“Good.” He kissed her again. “Let them see what Black love looks like.”

About Rhonda’s Writing

I write African American inspirational fiction and the themes of my books cover real life, real love, and real faith. I chose to write in this genre because this is the context I live in. I am the single black female on a covert search for love and most of my friends are in this same place or were recently in this place. Truthfully, all the stories I write are based a little on true stories – not always my stories but usually of people I know. My faith is so central to who I am that I only know how to interpret life through the gospel of Christ and His amazing love for me. This is why it has to be a part of my writing. But at the same time I live in the real world where nothing is simple and love – even the best kinds – are often messy and complicated. But that is what makes life so interesting and that I think is what makes my stories fun for me to write and for others to read.

Author Bio

R3Rhonda Bowen knew she would be a writer as early as eighth grade when she wrote her first novel with a classmate in a dollar notebook. While waiting for the day to come she completed a degree in Communications and spent a few years working in Public Relations and Event Planning. Throughout this time however, her desire to write stayed alive. She eventually completed her first novel, Man Enough for Me, which was released under Kensington Books’ Dafina imprint in February 2011.

Several years, a stint in Asia and a career change to youth work finds her still writing. She has written four romance novels and her books have been featured in PUBLISHERS WEEKLY and LIBRARY JOURNAL. Her latest novel Under Covers was released March 16, 2015. She writes about the themes of Real Life, Real Love and Real Faith, weaving stories about strong women who must deal with life and love without losing themselves. Sometimes they succeed, other times they make a mess of things while trying.

When not writing or being schooled on what’s current by the youth she works with, she enjoys chilling with her family, trying on shoes she can’t afford, bargain hunting online on Asian clothes websites and enjoying the great outdoors. Character Chatter with Grace King of Seasoned with Grace

Grace, I want to welcome you and thank you for stopping by The Neophyte Author. What brings you here today?

You know the saying can’t nobody tell it like you can. With the upcoming release of the book, Seasoned with Grace in which I am the star I wanted to make sure I get ahead of this thing and let everyone know who I am.

Who are you Grace King?

I’m a fabulous and fierce supermodel with a slight criminal history.

Slight? Is that accurate? When I checked you record–

Slight. I said slight, I’ve been arrested less times than DMX so, I consider my record to be slight. Do we really want to dig up skeltons? I’m sure you’ve got a few to share. You’re not the only one with research skills.

Grace the last place I want to be is on your bad side, I’ve heard you don’t play around. Why is that?

I’ve been on my own since I was sixteen and the streets of New York are much like the jungle–it’s kill or be killed, eat or be eaten. Although, most would say I’ve ascended far beyond my days on the street there are some things that you just can’t let go of. I just don’t know how to not defend myself and when I sense someone is on the attack I’d rather be the aggressor instead of the victim.

Some say that you’ve been a victim before and that’s why you’re overly aggressive. Is there any truth to that rumor?

I have been taken advantage of in my lifetime by people that I was supposed to be able to trust–some church folks. Y’all always doing dirt when you’re supposed to be serving God, but that’s neither here nor there. What’s really important is the release of Seasoned with Grace. All of my fans and new supporters will have the opportunity to see inside of my home, my heart, and my struggles in a way that others have not.

What should readers expect from this book?

Readers should expect a  fierce and fabulous ride with the one and only Grace King. They’ll have V.I.P. access to all of my shenanigans and of course there’s quite a bit eye candy in book. They’ll get to meet, Ethan Summerville my dedicated, extremely bright, and handsome lawyer; Pastor David, the pastor of Mount Carmel Community Church, and Horace Brown, my chocolate drop. Ladies, let me warn you know, don’t get too many ideas when you meet him. The only one who is going to taste that chocolate will be me once he stops playing hard to get. Seasoned with Grace is will tackle some touchy stuff that I have dealt with in my life like addiction, rape, and abortion. Things I couldn’t openly discuss until you wrote this book. Thank you for that, Nigeria.

It was my pleasure Grace. Why did you allow me to be the author of your tale?

I’m a harsh, abrasive Harlemite and you know how to make the grit of life look and sound good. I trusted to you to honor my story and I believe you did.

Before I let you go, Grace King, one last question–I can’t let you go without getting some fashion tips from you. What are your recommendations for this spring and summer?

Floral is in. I recommend buying a floral print pantsuit and a few pastel shirts and jeans. You can easily mix and match and work the trend. For the woman on the go and in need of a day to night look I’d recommend a figure flattering floral print dress with pumps in the day and a neutral shoe with fringes at night. For the daring sisters, sheer blouses are the go to item, but make sure your undergarments are the same color as the blouse. This summer jumpers are a must. I know the naturals are ruling the scene, but I have a feeling that short hair will make a comeback this year and even if it doesn’t I’m still going to be rocking this short cut. For more of my style tips please visit the Seasoned with Grace board on Pinterest that I help Nigeria curate. Thanks for having me on for Character Chatter. I’m going to try and get the rest of my buddies to sit down with you. To all those reading please one-click Seasoned with Grace today. You’re going to enjoy this ride.

#FridayFinds: Sweet Violet and a Time for Love by Leslie J. Sherrod

Sweet Violet and a Time for LoveSweet Violet and a Time for Love

(Book Four of the The Sienna St. James Series)

My stories could be categorized as Christian fiction, women’s fiction, and contemporary fiction – with a touch of mystery. I enjoy writing stories that have plenty of plot twists that keep readers guessing until the end while offering hope on the journey. My goal as a writer is to provide stories that are thought-provoking yet entertaining; inspirational and intriguing. As a social worker, I also want to address issues of significance: love and relationships, emotional wellness, social issues, faith, and more. The biggest honor I have as an author is when readers tell me that they had to put the book down a few times to think about matters and issues in their own lives. I don’t pretend to have all the answers on the big issues that surface in my stories; however, I want to open the door to discussion – and healing.

Synopsis:

“Flowers can’t tell lies. If you keep the sun off of them, dry up their waterbeds, and throw in weeds to choke ‘em out, ain’t no way or reason for them to bloom. If a rose is in full bloom when you know it’s only been kept in darkness, and the ground it’s planted in is cracked and cold, don’t stop to smell that rose. There’s a trap somewhere in those tempting dark red petals. There’s deceit. Maybe even death. Run from that flowerbed. You don’t want to get buried in that soil.”

It’s a few weeks before her fortieth birthday, and Sienna finally has the life she’s dreamed of: a husband who loves her, a private practice that’s flourished, and an extended family that has finally put its skeletons to rest. However, when a homeless, older woman named Sweet Violet comes under Sienna’s care with nothing on her but broken memories and a pocket watch stopped at 5:11, Sienna knows the peaceful life she’s been enjoying is coming to a screeching halt.

Despite her best attempts not to get too involved, Sienna quickly discovers the dangerous past of Sweet Violet, and decades-old secrets and shadows come creeping into the present with violent results. Further complicating matters is a shocking midlife surprise for Sienna, and an unwelcomed guest her son Roman brings home.

Life and death, love and loss remain on the line as Sienna seeks answers, ducks bullets, and tries to be a good wife.

Things to Make You Go Hmmm….

This post is solely for those who have read Born at Dawn. If you haven’t then you better read it so that you share your two cents or at least be prepared for the May discussion of the book. I encountered this post today on Facebook courtesy of Micheal Baisden Live and I could not help but think of Cynthia and Cheo.
